Going “Green” at Work – Washington Dental Service

Washington Dental Service is going “Green” and Tread Light Gifts will be there to celebrate, teach, and learn with their employees.

washington dental

Washington Dental Service, Washington’s leading dental services provider, is launching a company-wide green initiative by hosting a week of “green events” starting September 14. With different themes and events each day, WDS will focus on the importance of recycling, ride-share/commuting, reducing carbon footprints, water and conservation and living a “green lifestyle.” WDS is committed to making the most of our limited natural resources and preserving the environment for future generations by making environmentally conscious decisions and lessening our everyday impact on the environment.  We applaud WDS for taking the initiative to find ways their employees can be more green at work and home.

Tread Light Gifts will be joining WDS and local green businesses from 11-2pm on 9/16 for their Green Fair.   Other highlights from Washington Dental Services Green Week include:

  • To encourage employees and other building tenants to leave their cars behind and bring or enjoy a meal at work, WDS is hosting local mobile vendors on their campus during Green Week.  Employees can enjoy fabulous cuisine from some Seattle’s most popular mobile vendors.  With food from Marination, Rancho Bravo, Kaosamai, and Skillet ,we don’t think it will take much to convince anyone to stay in for lunch.
  • On Friday, September 18th, EarthWise, a mobile organics company specializing in local, organic and specialty products, will set up a mini farmer’s market in front of the Washington Dental Service building. WDS employees and our neighbors and tenants can purchase organic produce between the hours of 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. The produce offerings are vast, but best of all they are picked fresh from local farms.
  • A number of eco-friendly focused films will be shown during the lunch hour, as well

What a great example Washington Dental is setting for companies around the world!

5 eco-wedding tweets to follow

By now, you have probably heard of Twitter. Some of you may even using it. For those who are confused or wonder “Isn’t Twitter just like Facebook?”, here is a brief explanation. Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets (Wikipedia.) It’s simple to use – get an account, start following people who share similar interests, exchange information, and meet some fascinating people. I could go on for hours about how and why to use Twitter but I think that is better left to the experts at Mashable.

Every Monday on Twitter, people share their favorite people to follow in the eco world. It’s called EcoMonday. I have found some incredible resources each week based on people’s recommendations. With wedding season in full gear, this week I share some of my favorite or newly discovered people on Twitter tweeting about turning your special day into an eco-special day.

@ecowedding – After putting a lot of work into planning their own Green Wedding, Stacie and Joey Shepp decided to create a website and resource guide for others wanting to create an eco-friendly wedding. Their tweets about budget friendly tips are making eco-friendly weddings accessible to all.

@GreenBrideGuide – Kate Harrison wrote the ultimate book “The Green Wedding Guide” and now shares her experiences and ideas on her web site and via twitter. The Green Bride Guide stands out from the crowd by showing ways people can register for a Charity Registry, giving information on how to recycle and donate leftover food and clothes from a wedding, and even featuring a guest blog column that chronicles Top Chef’s Nikki Cascone adventures on planning a green wedding.

@SFGreenWeddings – Patti Lew writes about creative, practical & budget-friendly ways to incorporate green sensibilities into your wedding planning for the San Francisco Bay area. Don’t worry if you don’t live there, most of her tweets and writing applies to all who are planning a green wedding.

@greenhangershop – Judy Meggs is the co-owner of on online boutique that sells preowned wedding and designer attire. The amount of money people spend on a dress worn only once is insane. Why not save some moola and the earth and buy a used one?

@gfprint - Catherine Saunders and Jacqueline vonReichbauer are sisters and eco-entrepreneurs of Green Fingerprint – a  modern invitations, announcements and personal stationery company that prints exclusively on 100% post-consumer recycled and tree-free paper.  Follow them as they turn weddings more eco-friendly, one invitation at a time.
